Officers Comments/Reports:

President  – Doug Hodson: Doug extended a welcome back to Mel Bowen and asked if anyone needs a partner for the Member-Member.  Mel is available.

The Divot repair session on hole #17 went well.  More volunteers are needed for future “gatherings on the greens”.  Please repair fairway and green divots on a regular basis.

The Men’s Club took on the responsibility for placing flags on Holidays and special events.  We have received permission to use the new brackets we purchased on palm trees to display flags from each branch of service and a couple of POW flags.

Our new Website is up and running thanks to John Fox.  The old site has been shut down.

VP – Rick Yeo:  We encourage all members of the Men’s Club to use the Sponsors that were displayed on the First Tee during the Eclectic tournament.  We raised approximately $6500 from the group.

Secretary – John Whitney: N/R

Treasurer – Gary Druckrey: (See Financial report above)

Club Liaison – Bob Larsen:  12 people showed up at the Divot Party last week.  Mario is working around the weather to get the proper roll on the greens (.11 inches).

For Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s day there will be two shotgun starts.  There will be only one shotgun start on Christmas day at 8 am.  Christmas day the pro shop will be closed after the Shotgun gets underway.  The other days mentioned above, the shop will be open from 7 am to 12;30 pm.

The “no parking” around the Pro Shop and Palm Room is going well.  There is some concern on how to police non-golfers who want to park there while eating lunch.

There will be a disruption in the parking lot by the Ballroom and practice putting green as the Maintenance crew moves equipment on the premises (parking lot and green).  This will affect parking until the new Maintenance facility is completed.

Member at Large – John Coyle:  John mentioned how worn the shag bags are on the practice driving range.  Doug said the new ones are ready to be put out.

John addressed the process of forming standing groups for the AM Sweeps (like the PM groups do).  He mentioned that the original idea was to team players up with new people as often as possible to form more friendships.  This has been referred to the Board for discussion and a possible solution.

Member at Large – Tony Tilt: N/R

Handicap – Clint Jay: N/R

Membership – Brian Duckworth: We now have 306 members.  This is down from last year, probably due to the number of Canadians who did not return this year.  Brian will post a list of those who haven’t signed up this year.

Tournaments – Orest Kruhlak:  We had 110 players for the Eclectic Tournament and raised $3000.

Sign-up sheets are out for the Member/Member.  Member/Guest will be played in February (more to come).  More details to be posted in January for the new Match Play tournament.  Entry’s for the Match Play tournament are available also.

Publicity – Dennis Hanks: N/R

Hearts & Flowers – David Shaw:  10 Get Well or Thinking of You cards were sent out to various members.

Hole in One – Ken Gordon:  N/R

Social – Howard Hudson: N/R

Website Management – John Fox:  New Website is up and any ideas on how we can improve will be appreciated.  The old site has been shut down because it was hacked.  You can access the new site at pdgmgc.com.

OLD BUSINESS:  None

NEW BUSINESS:  A comment from the floor that the new flags on the greens are great.

GUEST SPEAKER:  Bob Bridenbach

Bob addressed a rules violation often brought to his attention by Members.  He has been approached by members who noticed another player lifting the ball from a bad lie off the fairway by picking it up or moving it with an iron.  In either case, the ball was subsequently moved or replaced in an improved lie, against the rule.  The player whose ball is in the rough must ask his playing partner to observe the situation and ask his permission to identify the ball as his.  Upon receiving permission, the ball striker must mark the location with a tee, identify the ball as his own and then replace it in the same lie as where he found it.  There can be no improvement in the lie.

Bob encouraged members to pay close attention to recording scores (on the score card). It was mentioned that two members overlooked an incorrect number of strokes on one hole for two playing partners.  Rather than posting the correct number of strokes on a hole, the nine hole total was posted instead.  This resulted in an additional 35 to 40 strokes for each player because they assumed the high number was for nine holes.  When you sign and have a card attested, there is nothing that can be done to change it.  Ouch!!

Bob then gave a little clinic on the proper motion to swing an iron so that the clubhead stays square throughout the swing.  This will prevent a slice or duck hook by not adjusting your swing on the way down.

The last item on his list was about enforcing the 30 feet distance from the green to golf carts.  If you see golfers parking closer than 30 feet to the green, take down the cart number and give it to Bob.

Speaking of carts, please no more than two carts per foursome.

Closing Remarks: Enjoy the Holidays.

Adjournment:  Meeting adjourned at 10:20am by President Doug Hodson.
